Walter Frederick Champlin, III, 62, of Jasper passed October 5, 2017 and his faith became reality. His journey began with a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer of the small intestines and liver. The struggle ended at home under hospice care surrounded by the prayers and love of family and friends.
Walter is known as "Bee man" Bud. He was a regular at the Jasper Farmer's Market. Member of the Appalachian Beekeeper's Club, Cherokee Beekeepers, Gilmer Beekeepers and other beekeeper organizations. Bud achieved the title of Master Beekeeper through the University of Georgia Honey Bee Program. He was involved in the education and mentoring of new beekeepers. Bud did many presentations at schools, garden clubs, organizations, farmer's market, and anywhere someone wanted to know about honey bees. (Even in his hospital bed.)
Bud was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Woodstock. Many times he shared his faith during his bee presentations. He had a heart for missions and served as World Missions International president for many years. He traveled on several Work and Witness trips.
Bud served in the Army, Army Reserves and retired from the Air Force. He served locally in the American Legion, Post 149 and the American Legion Riders.
Bud is survived by Vickie Champlin, his wife of 39 years; daughter and son-in-law, Valerie Champlin Loyer & Tim; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua & Dominique Champlin; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley & Addison Champlin; grandchildren, Rowan, Leland, Morgan, Joshua, & Jayden; brother; James Champlin.
Cagle Funeral Home is honored to serve the Champlin family. The funeral service will be held at Church of the Nazarene, Woodstock at 11 am, Tuesday. Rev. Lewis Stark officiating. Interment at National Cemetery, Canton, 9:30 am, Wednesday.
