Tom Kirby, a devoted Navy Corpsman Vietnam Veteran, father of seven, distinguished clothing salesman, and avid collector, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 surrounded by family on June 8, 2024.

His life was a testament to courage, dedication, and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on August 18, 1946, Tom grew up with a spirit of adventure and compassion. His service in the Navy during the Vietnam War reflected his unwavering commitment to duty and honor. As a Corpsman, he selflessly cared for his fellow servicemen, embodying the values of service
before self. After returning home from his military service, Tom embarked on a new journey as he looked to find his next calling in life. He started attending Southern Illinois University while trying his hand at photography, but he ultimately found success as a clothing salesman at Sohn's in
Carbondale. He later opened his clothing store, The Village Squire, with his former wife Sallie Barrett. With his affable demeanor and a keen eye for style, he built lasting relationships with his customers, earning their trust and admiration. His dedication to his craft and commitment to excellence were evident in every transaction, making him a respected figure in his community. Later in his life, he found his calling with missionary work in Africa. He was led there by his faith and this is where he met his current wife Marie-Jeanne. He continued his work there and soon married Marie-Jeanne. Once his work in Africa was complete, he moved back to Georgia. As he reached retirement age, Tom found his focus shifted back to people again. He volunteered avidly with the Vietnam Veterans Association and became instrumental in growing that group. He got immense pleasure in helping other veterans and going to visit "the guys" wherever they were. Beyond his professional pursuits, Tom had a passion for collecting. Whether it was rare stamps, trains, cars, books, or little army men, he approached each item with a sense of wonder and curiosity. His collection reflected his eclectic interests and served as a source of joy and fascination for him throughout his life. Tom will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his boundless generosity, and his infectious laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father William and Mary Jean Kirby, and sons Thomas Grover Kirby, Jr and William (BJ) Earl Kirby.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 28 years, Marie-Jeanne Kirby, five children; Leah Rasori (Paul) of Alpharetta, GA; Andy Kirby (Christina) of Flower Mound,TX; Marie-Louise Kirby of Atlanta, GA; Ludovic Kirby of Atlanta, GA and Sam Kirby of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves behind four
grandchildren: Jakob Roscoe, Los Angeles, CA; Sofia Roscoe, Kennesaw, GA; Olivia Kirby, Flower Mound, TX and Jack Kirby, Flower Mound, TX.

Celebration of Life will be held for Tom Kirby on June 22, 2024 between 2pm and 4pm at the American Legion Post 201, 201 Wills Road, Alpharetta, Georgia 30009. Also, a memorial service will be held on July 9th at 6:30 pm at Bennies (309 N Market St, Marion, IL 62959). Please RSVP to Dick Morgan at 618-579-5258.
