We gather with heavy hearts to honor and remember Mr. Steve Burgess—a man who lived with passion, strength, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved. Born in Jasper, Georgia, on August 19, 1956, to Clarence and Dot Burgess, Steve grew into the kind of man who left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Steve was a man of strong beliefs, firm in his ways, yet full of kindness and wisdom. He didn't hand out advice lightly, but when he spoke, people listened—because they knew his words carried the weight of experience and the care of someone who genuinely wanted to guide others through life's twists and turns. His lessons may not have always been easy, but they were always given with love and the hope of helping others find their way. His love for Harley Davidson motorcycles, fast rides, and building engines spoke to the spirit of adventure that lived in him. He found joy in the simple pleasures—listening to blues music, collecting guitars, spending time on the farm, riding his tractor, fishing, and camping by the river. He had a deep appreciation for the old and timeless, treasuring antiquated things and the memories they held. Steve cherished his family and friends, finding happiness in the moments spent with those closest to him. He had a way of making people feel seen and heard, always willing to lend a hand or share a moment of laughter. His love was strong, his presence steady, and his heart full. One of the dearest memories is how he would strum his guitar to lull Maggie to sleep when she was just a baby—a small but beautiful testament to his tenderness. He lived his life by his own rules, never backing down, but always making space in his heart for the people he cared for. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories that will live on forever. Steve was truly one of a kind, and he will never be forgotten.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.

His absence will be deeply felt by his surviving family and friends, daughters, Wendy Burgess and Maggie Burgess, sister, Betty Mason, friends that became family, Sam Duncan, Thomas Darnell, Stuart Prescott, Kenny Lowe, Steven Foster and Steve Bragg.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at six in the evening until nine at night and Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 10 in the morning until the service hour.

Steve's eulogy will be conducted in The Robert A. Cagle Memorial Chapel on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 2:30 in the afternoon with testimonies of love from his family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Thomas Darnell, Steve Bragg, Lance Dilbeck, Sam Duncan, Hunter Hathcock and Larry Slocum. Interment will follow directly after the service at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
