Obituary

Mr. Russell C. (Dood's) Pendley, age 98 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his residence.

Russell was a lifelong resident of Pickens County, served in the Army and was a WWII Veteran. He also served in the CCC's. Russell worked for Bell Bomber then worked at the Georgia Marble plant in Tate, GA. Russell enjoyed playing bluegrass music and played the guitar and mandolin. Russell enjoyed traveling, and his all time favorite vacation was going to Disney World in Orlando Florida and visiting NASA launch facility at age 87. He also enjoyed going jeep riding with his granddaughter Leah Blankenship and just seeing the great outdoors in a jeep with no doors. Russell also attended the Pickens County Senior Citizens Center. Russell never met a stranger.

Russell is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Russell Lee & Linda Pendley of Jasper, Larry & Dolly Pendley of Marble Hill, Thomas & Gina Pendley of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law: Joyce & Ronnie Chumley of Jasper, Mary & Tony Lee of Jasper, Martha & John Elischer of Jasper; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years: Louise B. Pendley; father and mother: Oscar & Nettie Pendley; brothers and sisters: Edward Pendley, Dillard Pendley, Clara Mae Callahan and Herschel Pendley.

Visitation is Wednesday, July 8, 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, July 9, 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Friday, July 10, 8:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, with Rev. Thomas Shipman and Rev. Roland Nelson officiating.

Interment will be at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Kody Chumley, Chris McLaughlin, Marcus Walker, Brett Cash, Chuck Swancy, Kevin Little and Scotty Pendley.
