Roy Blackwell, 79, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away on February 23, 2025. Born on December 15, 1945, to the late William and Callie Blackwell.

Roy spent many hardworking years at Georgia Craft Woodland company as a dozer operator and served his country in the US Army. Roy also worked in Alaska at Alaska Petroleum. Married to his sweetheart Gail for 55 wonderful years, they shared a life filled with love and adventure, raising three sons along the way. From a young age, Roy fell in love with hunting. His big brothers would take him out, and even his mother would take him squirrel hunting when he was too small to go alone. He also loved fishing and coon hunting, passions that stayed with him throughout his life. In 1969, Roy and Gail moved to Alaska to work in the oil field as well as for the hunting, but Georgia always called them back home whenever they could visit. Roy's adventurous spirit, love for his family, and passion for the outdoors will be deeply missed. His legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lila Johnson, brothers, William Blackwell Jr., Jim Blackwell and Jack Blackwell.

His loss will be deeply felt by his surviving family, wife, Gail Blackwell, sons, Roy Blackwell, John (Amy) Blackwell, Brandon (Leah) Blackwell, grandchildren, Jayvan, Kaleb and Denali Blackwell, brothers, Joe Blackwell, Jerry Blackwell, sisters, Sue Tatum, Joyce Davis and Patricia Blackwell. Several other family members and friends also survive to cherish Roy's memory.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Thursday February 27, 2025, from 6 to 9 PM and Friday February 28, 2025, from 10 am until the service hour.


Roy's funeral service will be held in the Robert A. Cagle Memorial Chapel on Friday February 28, 2025, at two in the afternoon with Rev. Glen Arnold and testimonies of love from Keith Gayton. Serving as pallbearers; will be Tony Gayton, Jimmy Blackwell, Steve Blackwell, Mark Blackwell, William Blackwell and Buck Blackwell. Interment will follow the service at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

The family kindly requests that no food be brought to the funeral home.
