Obituary

MSGT Robert L. Russell, USAF Ret., a dedicated serviceman and beloved family man, passed away on August 27, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on July 12, 1957, in Long Beach, CA, to Mr. Robert Lusher Russell and Ms. Kiddie Abercrombie Russell, Robert lived a life marked by service, loyalty, and love.

Robert proudly served his country for 23 years in the United States Air Force, where he met the love of his life, his wife of 39 years, Shirley, while they were both stationed in Germany. Together, they built a beautiful life and family with three children. After retiring from the Air Force, where he worked as a flight engineer on C-130s, Robert continued his passion for engineering at Lockheed, from where he also retired.

Robert's love for his country was matched by his love for his family and hobbies. He was an avid coin collector, he loved photography and was a skilled mechanic who loved tinkering with anything mechanical. Robert indulged in life's sweet treats, like chocolate chip cookies and bundt cakes. His grandchildren were the light of his life, always making sure they got anything they wanted, including many popsicles.

Known for his determination, Robert was also incredibly loyal and had a great sense of humor. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and would give you anything you asked for. Above all, he was a devoted provider who took great care of his family. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Roberta Lynn Wilson, and beloved mother-in-law Eunice Drake.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Russell, sons; Bobby (Mary-Caroline) Russell, Johnathan (Camilla) Russell, Daniel (Christine) Russell, his grandchildren; Eleanor, Charlotte, and Paul, father-in-law Kenneth Drake, and his canine companion, JoJo.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Thursday August 29, 2024, from five in the evening until eight at night.

Robert will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:30 in the morning. Serving as pallbearers will be; Bobby Russell, Johnathan Russell, Daniel Russell and Kevin Ruff.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Robert's name to "Honor Flight" and deeply appreciate your support during this difficult time.
