Rebecca Dale Merritt, age 83, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 16, 1941, to Mr. Loy Hackett and Mrs. Cora Lee Hopkins Hackett.

Rebecca married the love of her life, Thomas Merritt, on December 31, 1960. They shared a beautiful marriage of 63 years and 9 months, building a life together and cherished their children.

Rebecca was known for her infectious laughter and her generous spirit. Thomas delighted in making her laugh, and together they created a home filled with joy and love. Rebecca's heart was always open to others; she and Thomas fostered countless children, providing them with a loving and nurturing environment. Her dedication to helping others extended beyond her home as she worked at the Burnt Mountain Center, where she made a significant impact on the lives of many people.

After her time at the Burnt Mountain Center, Walmart recognized Rebecca's exceptional people skills and the light she brought to everyone around her. They eagerly invited her to join their team, where she continued to spread joy and kindness. Rebecca eventually retired from Walmart, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion.

A devout Christian, Rebecca hosted numerous Bible studies and welcomed missionaries into her home. She lived by the scripture "Love one another," embodying this principle in every aspect of her life. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of both children and adults, making her a true blessing to all who knew her.

Rebecca was a devoted wife who stood steadfastly by Thomas's side, believing that divorce was never an option, and that family was always a priority. She was a talented beautician for many years and had a passion for painting, decorating, wallpapering, and reading. However, her greatest joy came from playing in the snow and creating cherished memories with her family during snowy days. Her face would light up with pure delight at the sight of falling snowflakes.

Rebecca's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a family who adored her and countless friends who were blessed by her kindness. Rebecca Dale Merritt will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son, daughter and one brother and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Merritt, son, Paul (Dianne) Merritt, daughter, Deborah Stancil, grandchildren, Travis (Heather) Parker, Christian Parker, Taylor Stancil, Chace Stancil, Autumn Stancil, Monroe LeSesne, Amanda Boone, great grandchildren, Emma Blackburn, Hunter Blackburn and Alisa Blackburn.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Sunday September 22, 2024, from five in the evening until nine at night, Monday September 23, 2024, from five in the evening until nine at night and Tuesday September 24, 2024, from ten in the morning until the service hour.

Rebecca's funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home on Tuesday September 24, 2024, with Rev. Thomas Merritt and Rev. Chris Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Roswell, Georgia. Serving as Pallbearers will be Travis Parker, Chace Stancil, Monroe LeSesne, Terry Wyman, Michael Barnes, Larry Kirkpatrick, James Harrison, Ronnie Raines and Allan Mabry, honorary pallbearer, Hunter Parker.
