Obituary

Evelyn Parris, age 98, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2026.

Born on May 5, 1928, to Jacob and Mattie Childers, Evelyn grew up surrounded by many brothers and one sister. She carried throughout her life the values of hard work, generosity, and devotion to family that were instilled in her from an early age. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Joyce Hancock and Lynn Easterwood, son, Raymond Parris, and great-grandsons, Bryce and Elijah. 

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Mike) West; grandchildren Tammy (David) Massey, Chris (Melissa) West, Ginger (Robert) Piper, Hope (Justin) Spivey, Alicia (Nick) Reed, and Miranda Easterwood. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy and pride. 

Evelyn worked for many years at Walmart, where she was known for her dedication and friendly spirit. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone in need. Her greatest love was her family, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She also found happiness in gardening and took great pride in caring for her flowers and plants.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, and again on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from noon until the service hour.

Evelyn's funeral service will be held in the Robert A. Cagle Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 2:00pm, with Rev. Travis Childers officiating. Interment will follow at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be; Horace Flowers, Jacob Massey, Cody West, Levi Piper, Rylan Piper, and Nick Reed. 

Evelyn's kindness, generosity, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of compassion and selflessness will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be forever loved, fondly remembered, and greatly missed.

The family respectfully asks that no food be sent at this time.
