Melanie E. Effler, age 52, passed away May 29, 2025 after an extended illness. Melanie, born in Woodstock, Georgia, relocated to Pickens County at age 13. After graduating Pickens High School in the Class of 1991 she attended  and graduated from Agnes Scott College. She returned to Jasper to work in local law offices her entire career. Melanie was dedicated to helping others, and was very involved in local community service organizations. She was a founding member of the Pickens Community Service Club and was a tireless volunteer with the Pickens County Sheriff's Auxiliary. Melanie was proceeded in death by her parents, Roy and Patty Sellers, both formally of Jasper. She is survived by her sister, Pam Lyon (Richard) of Newport Maine. She leaves behind many chosen family: her beloved Turtles Nancy Maddox (Mark), Leigh Young, Ami Kirk Jones (Kenny), and honorary Turtle Tammy DeSimone (Russ), her sister she found Cheryl Sams, and many chosen nieces and nephews (Britany, Billy, Maia, Tina, Tyson, Karma, Henry, Braylen, Bristol, Macy, Wyatt, and Eli) and dear friends Darlene, Ray, Ricky, and Charlene. Melanie was affectionately referred to as a "Crazy Cat Lady" for her love of all things feline, and was preceded in death by her fur babies Oscar and Sprout. She is survived by her fur children Spot, Spike, Willie, Abby, and Dodger."
