Mrs. Mary H. Smith, age 98 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at The Retreat in Jasper.

Mary lived all over the United States, also in Iran, Belgium, and Spain. She moved to Jasper with her husband Jack in 1977, and worked as a secretary for the Jasper First Baptist Church. She was active in the Lioness Club, and a member of Piedmont Mountainside Auxillary, and at one point had the most service hours in the history of the organization. She belonged to a book club and was always an avid reader.

In 2018 she moved into The Retreat at Jasper Assisted Living, when it first opened. She has enjoyed every bit of it, and kept everyone on their toes. The caregivers and staff have been wonderful and she built some very genuine relationships.

Mary is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Sharon Smith Dionne of Summerville, SC, and Rebecca & Mark Harris of Canton; sister, Coleen Pethel of Oakwood, GA; three grandchildren, Tyler Harris, Mackenzie Riddle, and Erin Millard; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Friday, October 21, 11:30 am until the service hour.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, October 21, 2022 at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Preston Jones officiating.

Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens following the funeral service.
