Mary Elder Davis, 79, died in her home in Jasper, Georgia on Friday, July 10, 2020.

Mary graduated from Clifton High School in Clifton, Texas in 1959. She received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from Baylor University in 1963 and a Master of Science in Home Economics from the University of Georgia in 1982. She worked  at the Atlanta Gas Light Company for 25 years, receiving multiple awards and accolades, from 1970 to 1995. Mary began her career as a high school public teacher in Louisville, Kentucky where she taught Home Economics from 1964 to 1967.

Mary loved to travel and plan trips with her husband Duane and grandchildren, taking every chance she had to see new parts of the world or spend time with distant family and friends. When she wasn't traveling, she could be found scrapbooking memories of her journeys or creating beautiful stained glass art. Prior to her move to Jasper, Mary was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia where she loved being a member of the choir. Mary also participated in various organizations, including the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and serving as a volunteer with the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital Auxiliary. But Mary's greatest love was that of wife, mother and grandmother.

Born in Clifton, Texas on November 13, 1940, she was preceded in death by her parents, Prentice Lee Elder and Velma Helen Elder, and siblings Lee Murzel Elder and Amos Gene Elder.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Duane Evans Davis. In addition to Duane, Mary is survived by her sisters Velma Oleta Lubke, Dorothy Frances Davis and Betty Beatrice Barrs; her son Dean Alan Davis and wife Karen; and her grandchildren, Madison Davis and Joshua Davis.

Due to increased concern over the spread of Covid-19, memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
