Jimmy Dobson

Mr. Jimmy Dobson, age 86, of Ball Ground, Georgia, passed away on May 25, 2026. He was born on March 18, 1940, to the late Eugene Dobson and Carol Holbert Dobson.

For quite some time now we’ve known Dads days were fine on borrowed time. How do we even begin to describe our Daddy? I’ll start in the beginning when he took my mom at 15 and dad at 17 to forever unite in holy matrimony and boy do I mean forever. Dads love for momma is straight out of Heaven and should be a footprint for all marriages to mimic. Dad is the foundation to this entire family, community, and a dedicated deacon in our little church and so much more. His shoes cannot ever be filled but I know that foundation he built so carefully and humbly will remain here on this earth until time shall be no more. The greatest thing we will miss here on this side is his unwavered and so sincere prayers he spoke to our God daily even in his final hours. Dad’s life growing up he was a hard worker that was his pleasure was to work and be accomplished. He grew up on a dairy farm with his parents and marrying off to begin his own farm life with only completing school until 10th grade began this journey with mom. Dad built a single chicken house that over the years grew to 6. Dad loved buying “junk” as I would call it, fixing it up to sell and make him a buck or two. He’s the only man that anything you have could be torn up and he’d say let’s go out in the “old” garage in may have something that we can fix this. Usually, he was right. While raising chickens he also worked for Georgia Marble company for many years. He’s drove a lumber truck but his love was and will always be his farm life. As his health declined, he still loved to go on his Papa and Momma Dobson old farm place and see his cows. That was his pleasure. He loved sitting outside under the big oak tree and watching his beautiful garden grow. I’ve seen him in that garden time and time smothering so bad but still picking that corn till we’d run him out. He loved all the work involved to put up vegetables to feed anyone that stepped inside his home. He was a man that sought after being accomplished in every day. He never gave up on this and that’s why he made it 86 years. His love for his children goes beyond any words I could write. Dad wasn’t a man of many words but his actions done the talking for him. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was always the ear to listen on their daily events and tried to let us all grow and find our own way but at the same time led us to good decisions and make our life the best it can be and that’s all a direct result from our daddy and papa’s guidance. In closing I want to say as you navigate through your life remember Jimmy Dobson and all he stood for and let his spirit and love remain within each of you today and all the days until God calls us home.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Martin.

He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Selma Dobson; his children, Ricky (Debi) Dobson, Kenny (Sheila) Dobson, and Donna (Stephen) Brown; his grandchildren, Wesley (Kolbie) Dobson, Macy (Justin) Stewart, Alana Dobson, Salone (Turner) Griffin, Sydney (T.J.) Orr, and Eryn Brown (Jackson Partain); and his great‑grandchildren, Maddie Stewart, Olivia Miller, Grant Griffin, Kyla James Griffin, Allie Griffin, Cade Griffin, and Colter Orr. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Pendley and Gail Powell, along with several nieces and nephews.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Freddy Dobson, Charlie Holden, and Jimmy Reynolds. Pallbearers will be Terry Solomon, Freddy Brackett, Alan Hyde, Rodney Hyde, Phil Blackwell, and Jimmy Blackwell.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM; Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM; and Thursday from 10:00 AM until 1:15 PM.

Jimmy’s funeral service will be held at Mica Baptist Church on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Revs. Kenny Sutton, John Holoway, and Sylvester Ridings officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
