Obituary

J.T. Childers, a lifelong resident of Jasper, Georgia, passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on March 26, 1947, to the late Theodore Childers and Leva Anne McBee Childers, J.T. was deeply rooted in the heart of his small-town community. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife, daughter, and granddaughter.

J.T. was a husband, father, and papa who truly valued his family. He shared a 50-year marriage filled with love and laughter. A true small-town man, J.T. found joy in life's simple pleasures. You could find him tinkering around the house or riding the backroads of Jasper. He was stubborn as a mule—and he knew it. J.T. had an answer for everything and wasn't afraid to tell you what he thought. His know-it-all nature was part of his charm, and those who knew him best loved him all the more for it. His strong will and one-of-a-kind personality left a lasting mark on everyone he met. Whether he was loafering around town, playing the "ding ding" machines, or swapping stories at a gas station or hardware store, J.T. had a way of making people feel like they'd known him forever. J.T. was known for his craftsmanship, having laid floors in countless homes and businesses across Jasper and Talking Rock. He also enjoyed riding his lawn mower, collecting coins and baseball cards, listening to old country music, and spending his mornings at the duck pond. J.T. Childers was a familiar face and a steady presence. His memory will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Horace (Red) Childers and sister, Betty Emory.

His loss will be deeply felt by his surviving family, wife, Kathy Childers, daughter, Jamie Childers (Cody) Bryant, granddaughter, Ashley Hollingshead, step granddaughter, Jada Bryant, great-grandson, Avery (Jackson James) Hollingshead, brother, Harley Childers, sisters, Eloise (Danny) Weaver, Doris (John) Tawzer and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from five in the evening until nine at night, Thursday, April 17, 2025, from ten in the morning until nine at night and Friday, April 18, 2025, from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon.

J.T.'s funeral service will be conducted at Jerusalem Baptist Church on April 18, 2025, at three in the afternoon with Rev. Buck Parker and Rev. James Thompson officiating. The interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Childers, Dwight Childers, Greg Childers, Mark Childers, Johnathon Tawzer, Sam Weaver and David Klein.
