Mr. Gerald Leroy Murphy, known to all as Gary, passed away peacefully at his home in Jasper, Georgia, on January 21, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 10, 1946, to the late Russell Murphy and Ester Cook Murphy.

Gary's life was marked by love, dedication, and faith. At the tender age of 19, he married the love of his life, Pat, on October 20, 1965. For 59 beautiful years, they shared a union filled with unwavering devotion, building a life and family together. They were blessed with five wonderful daughters, who were the light of Gary's life. He was a pillar of strength, working tireless 16-hour days to provide for his family, ensuring that Pat could stay home and raise their daughters. Gary was a hard-working man, a devout Christian, and a loving husband and father. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, reflected in his membership at Cool Springs Baptist Church. He lived by the words, "God first, then family," a philosophy that guided his every action. He was a sweet and kind man who spread joy to everyone he met. He had a special way of making people laugh, always ready with a joke, playful banter, or a warm smile.

Gary was also a passionate supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers, proudly cheering on his team through every game, win or lose. His love for the Steelers was rivaled only by his love for his family. He took immense pride in his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always introducing himself with, "I have five daughters." They affectionately called him Pawpaw and Granddad, and his pride and joy in being their patriarch was evident in every conversation.

When he wasn't watching the Steelers, you could find Gary enjoying his favorite shows, "The Price Is Right" and "Family Feud." He found simple pleasures in life, and his gentle spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gary's legacy of love, faith, and unwavering dedication to his family will live on in their hearts. His gentle soul will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Russell Murphy, Ronnie Murphy and sister, Katherine Roggenkemp.

His loss will be deeply felt by his surviving family, wife, Pat Murphy, daughters, Patty (Sammy) Rich, Kim Murphy, Miki (Matthew) Denney, Shannon (Mark) Rampley, and Gerri (Lamar) Sutton, 13 grandchildren, 11 (and one on the way) great grandchildren also survive to cherish Gary's memory.

The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home on Wednesday January 22, 2025, from noon until nine at night.
