Mr. Edward Lafayette Stephens, age 94 of Jasper passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Seasons Hospice in Cumming GA. Ed was born in Ellijay off Boardtown Road in 1926 to Andrew and Ava Stephens. He served his country in WW2 in the United States Army. He went to work at AEMC in Jasper in 1948 where he met "the most beautiful woman he had ever seen" Pauline. They were married in 1951 and have spent all 69 of their years together living in Jasper. His legacy of love, service and commitment to God, his family, his community and his country is immeasurable.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife; Pauline Whitefield Stephens of Jasper. Son and Daughter-in-law; Paul & Carrie Stephens of Jasper. Daughter; Ava Rogers of Jasper. Brother; Jasper Stephens of Ellijay. Brother and Sister-in-law; Larry & Lupita Stephens of Ellijay. Sister; Winnie Stephens Gibson of Ellijay. Grandchildren; Jacob, Luke, Allie, Maria & husband, Kevin, Eddie and Cody. Great-Grandchildren; Derek and Destiny. Also he is survived by his Brother-in-law; Bob Whitfield and Sisters-in-law; Joyce Cothran and Becky Bannister.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents; Andrew Edward Stephens and Ava Bell Fowler Stephens. Brothers; Quinton, Charles, Ernest and A.E. Stephens. Son-in-law; Daryl Rogers and grandson; Cliff Rogers.
The family will be receiving friends Sunday, September 13th from 12:30 until 2:30.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Steve Wigington officiating.
Pallbearers: Kevin Miller, Eddie Rogers, Chuck Whaley, Kenton Baggs, Mark Hinton, Jacob Stephens, Luke Stephens and Steve Gibson.
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
The family will be accepting outdoor plants or donate to Cool Springs Baptist Church, Lions Club or Gideons International.
