Obituary

Catherine Jay Mann, age 75, of Big Canoe, GA, passed away December 22, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James David and Bettie Duncan Jay. Born in Greenville, SC, she moved to Atlanta in 1960. A graduate of Northside High School, she attended the University of Tennessee. While at UT, she developed a love of Vols football and was a member of Phi Beta. After graduating from Georgia State University with a Master's Degree in Education, she started her teaching career at Southwest High School in Atlanta and subsequently joined The Atlanta Speech School where she taught for thirty seven years. She was married to the love of her life, John Mann, for fifty three years. Her grandchildren were her world and brought her so much joy. In addition to her family, she loved gardening, cooking, books, and her involvement with the Big Canoe Wild Flower Bunch.

Catherine is survived by her husband, John Mann of Big Canoe, Georgia; daughter Abigail Mann Whittle (Edward); grandchildren, Graham and Molly of Milton, Georgia; sister Lynn Coleman; niece Allison Coleman of Cumming, Georgia; and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held January 22, 2022 at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Jasper, GA at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at the Big Canoe Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, or a charity of your choice.
