Obituary

Bobby Gray Martin, 89, of Jasper Georgia, passed away Tuesday evening, June 30, 2020. He was born July 22, 1930 in Ohatchee, Alabama to Lillie and Ronnie Martin. He married Betty Young Martin on December 19, 1953.

Bobby had a strong love for his God and his family, and a passion for education! He graduated from Jacksonville State College, and did his post graduate work at George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, TN. He was a science teacher, principal at Rico, Church Street, College Street and Laurel Hills Elementary Schools. Last, he was named Executive Director of Staff Development, holding that position for 16 years. Most of his years of service were in the Fulton County School System. Bobby also served on the Fulton County Teachers Pension Board for many years and was active in organizations related to his work. He retired in 1989, an educator for 39 years. While living in Fairburn, Bobby served on the Fairburn City Council from 1980-1986. After retirement, Bobby and Betty operated an antique business on the Marietta Square. They moved to Bent Tree in Jasper, GA in 1997, attending First Baptist Church of Jasper serving as a deacon emeritus.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 66 years- Betty Martin, daughter- Darla Kemp of Roswell, GA; grandson and his wife- Jeremy and Sarah Kemp of Lakeland, FL; great grandchildren- Corban, Gray, and McKendall Kemp of Lakeland, FL. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents- Ronnie and Lillie Martin of Ohatchee, AL and brother and his wife- Don and Joyce Martin of Orlando, FL.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, at First Baptist Church of Jasper, beginning with visitation at 10:15, followed by a service at 11:00. A procession and short graveside service will be at 12:00 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Reverend Jeremy Kemp, Bobby's grandson, and Reverend Preston Jones will officiate the service.

in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Jasper, GA, and to First Baptist Church of Jasper, GA.
