Obituary

Betty Greenman Aiken of Bent Tree, Jasper, GA, passed away January 18, 2023.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 29, 1927, Betty was the seventh of seven children of Mina Marie Morrison and Arnie Lee Greenman. Growing up in Jacksonville, she met her future husband, C.R. "Bud" Aiken at Andrew Jackson High School. They married on August 3, 1945. Betty and Bud had two sons, Michael Lee and Robert Scott. Her husband Bud Aiken predeceased her in 2008.

Betty and Bud lived in Jacksonville and Coral Gables, moving to Georgia in 1959. They resided with their sons in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody, with short residencies in California and North Carolina. Relocating to Bent Tree in Jasper, they spent their final thirty years enjoying the peace and tranquility of the mountains and friendships in the local community.

Betty had many active interests, especially playing ladies golf at Bent Tree and painting watercolors with her good friend Jean Boring. She was an early member of the Sandy Springs Garden Club, along with her longtime friend Garnett Cobb. She studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and was proud to have worked at Northside Hospital in the premature babies ward.

Betty converted to Catholicism in 1957 and with her husband Bud was a loyal parishioner in several parishes, including St. Jude the Apostle in Dunwoody and Our Lady of the Mountains in Jasper.

She is survived by her two sons, Mike, Scott (Noelle), her cherished granddaughters, Ansley (Zachary) Webb and Caleigh Aiken, nephew Paul (Jana) Phillips of Bent Tree, and many other nephews and nieces throughout Georgia, Florida, and the United States. Betty was the last surviving child of her loving and close family, known for their joy in living and their strong loyalties to each other through thick and thin.
