Talking Rock

Obituary

A most selfless person, Arnold Lee Johnson, age 89 of Talking Rock, passed away at The Oaks Personal Care Home in Fairmount, Georgia on Sunday August 25, 2019.

He was born August 1, 1930 to Hardy Lee Johnson and Ollie Mae (Fendley) Johnson in Jasper, Georgia. After graduation, Arnold worked in the family's quarry in Jasper splitting flagstone with his father Hardy and brother Hal.

After signing up for the Army and before he was shipped out to fight in the Korean war from 1950-1953, Arnold eloped and married his sweetheart, Beatrice "Bea" Gaddis at a preacher's house in Ball Ground, Georgia on November 26, 1949.

Upon leaving the Army and returning home, Arnold learned the electrical trade working with his brother-in-law Sam Gaddis, Cleveland Electric and Lockheed Corp. Later, he established his own family-run business, "Johnson Electric Company" in Roswell, Georgia, where he worked for 18 years with his wife Bea and his sons.

After retirement, Arnold and Bea moved back to the Johnson family homestead in Jasper, where they resided until her death in 2003. Arnold later married Betty Doris Wigington (Disharoon) in 2004, also a widower, whom he knew from earlier childhood years. They lived in Talking Rock until her death in 2007.

He spent his remaining years tinkering in his tool shop, fishing, working in his yard, visiting family, and spending time with his little dog, Taffy, at his Twin Lakes Community cottage in Talking Rock. As his health later began to decline in early 2018, he moved into The Oaks at Fairmount and lived there until his death.

He is survived by three sons: Terrance Keith "Terry" Johnson and his wife Linda, of Woodstock; James Tolover Johnson and his wife Debra, of Talking Rock; and Thomas Anthony "Tom" Johnson, of Jasper; one sister: Marie (Johnson) Collins, of Fairmount; three grandchildren: Ryan and Shannon Johnson of Jasper, and Britney (Johnson) Bragagnolo of Ontario, Canada; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arnold is preceded in death by his wife of 50+ years Beatrice Elmina Louella "Bea" (Gaddis) Johnson, his second wife Betty Doris (Disharoon) Wigington Johnson; son, Gary Lee Johnson; brother, William Howell "Hal" Johnson, and sister Shirley Mae (Johnson) Akins.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28 from 1:30 PM until 8:00 PM and Thursday, August 29 from 8:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday August 29, 2019 in the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, with Minister Tony Boyd officiating.

Interment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: James Johnson, Tom Johnson, Terry Johnson, Ryan Lee Johnson and Mark Shirley.
