Archel
Jackson
May 5, 1934 — May 29, 2025
Japer
Archel J. Jackson, 91, of Jasper, GA passed away on May 29, 2025 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. Archel was born May 5, 1934 in the Big Ridge Community of Pickens County, GA to the Late Arron and Pearl Jackson.
A.J., as he was affectionately known, came from a long line of musically talented people. He was a great Bluegrass musician and was fortunate enough to meet many entertainers along the way. A.J. was a disc jockey on several radio shows and was privileged to interview many such entertainers as Loretta Lynn, Dottie West, Jennie Sealy, and George Hamilton IV. He played many clubs in Texas while working as an iron and steel worker with Capital Steel Company.
A.J. also worked for many years as a fireman at Fair Oaks Fire Department in Marietta, GA where he became acquainted with professional wrestler, Bob Armstrong. Although A.J. thought very highly of Bob, that's a sport he never tried.
He was an avid fan of Ralph Stanley, Flat and Scruggs, and Bill Monroe. A.J.'s dedication to Bluegrass music never wavered, he genuinely loved it and the folks who also shared that passion.
A.J. is preceded in death by his daughter, Marla Mitchell, parents, Arron and Pearl Jackson, brothers: Milton Jackson, known musically as "Jack Holden", James Jackson. Eugene Jackson, and Warren Jackson, sisters: Mae Young, Agnes Long, Dimple Martin, and Emma Tidwell.
He is survived by his daughter Teresa Cairo, and granddaughter, Kayleigh Cario of Texas, several nieces and nephews and lifelong friend, Doris Raynes and his friend and musical associate, Ronald Young also survive to cherish his memory.
His laughter and lust for life will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace "Uncle Charlie"
