Obituary

Annie Jo Wood
February 21, 1925 – August 14, 2025

Annie Jo Wood, cherished matriarch and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on February 21, 1925, to Cecil and Ruth Sullins, Jo lived a life marked by warmth, wisdom, and quiet joy.

She was known for her winning personality, sweet spirit, keen intellect, and wry sense of humor. Jo was also never one to shy away from sharing her thoughts—her strong opinions and confident presence were part of what made her so unforgettable. She led with conviction and clarity, and those around her always knew where she stood.

Her love of reading was so profound that her book club, originally the Jasper Book Club, was renamed in her honor as the Annie Jo Wood Book Club—a lasting tribute to her literary passion and leadership.

Jo found serenity in nature. She was an avid gardener and a proud member of the Amicalola Garden Club. Her happiest moments were spent watching hummingbirds from her porch or tending a fire in the fireplace—regardless of the temperature outside.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ruth Sullins; her brother, William Ray Sullins; her husband, Marion P. "Woody" Wood; her children, Sandra Bettis, Linda Morris, and Kevin Wood; and her grandson, Christopher Morris.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Tammy Lea, Melisa Lea, Richard Bettis, and Ryan Bettis; and her great-grandchildren, William Blakely, John Blakely, and Chloe Bettis. Her legacy lives on in their lives and in the hearts of all who knew her.

Jo will be remembered for her gentle strength, her love of learning and nature, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will be cherished always.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 23 from 12 noon til 2PM at Cagle Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2PM in the Robert A. Cagle memorial chapel with Rev. Preston Jones officiating.
